Staff Biographies

 

Julie Wesolek

Executive Director
Julie Wesolek is the Executive Director of the Sequoia YMCA. She has served as a YMCA professional for more than 21 years in California and in the YMCA of Metropolitan Washington D. C. Julie has a Master's degree in Health Management and continues to educate YMCA members about the benefits of an active lifestyle. She is a Rotarian, teaches Pilates, and dance exercise classes weekly at the Y. Julie and her husband Chris are the proud parents of two girls.

Matt Hitchcock

Associate Executive Director
Matt joined the Sequoia YMCA with more than ten years of experience working for the YMCA of San Francisco.  Most recently, he worked at the Presidio Community YMCA supervising Camp, Youth/Adult Sports, Family, Teen and Outreach programs and helped with leadership for the Strong Communities Campaign as well as marketing and PR for the branch.  He lives with his wife and 3-year-old son in San Francisco.


Jose Garcia

Membership Director
Jose Garcia immigrated to the United States from Guatemala when he was 5 years old.  This challenging transition taught him the importance of hard work, perseverance and the importance of connecting with his community. In high school, Jose worked creating websites for several local companies, as well as assisting with other aspects of marketing. Additionally, he contributed to a variety of layout brochures, catalogs, graphics and logos for skateboard companies. Jose started working for the Y in 2006 because he wanted help improve the lives of those in his community. He loves the family atmosphere at the Sequoia YMCA and is fond of meeting new people everyday.  On his time off, Jose enjoys skateboarding, reading, drawing, playing tennis, swimming, making creations with Photoshop, watching movies, and perfecting his Elvis impersonation.

Nazaneen Khalil-Naji

Youth Program Director
Nazaneen is the Director of the Citizen Schools program at the McKinley Institute of Technology. She graduated with a B.A. from Evergreen State College with a degree in Political Economics and Spanish. After furthering her education at the University of Pennsylvania where she earned a M.S. degree in Secondary Education, she worked as a Spanish teacher and pre-school teacher. Nazaneen has been with the Citizen Schools program as an AmeriCorps Teaching Fellow for the past two years. Within this time, she also worked as a coordinator for the Sequoia YMCA’s California Youth & Government program and as the Summer Day Camp Coordinator.

Meghan O'Connor

Youth Program Director
Meghan recently joined the Sequoia YMCA as a Youth Program Director, bringing with her years of experience working with youth. Meghan grew up in wonderful Upstate New York before moving to Fairfield, CT to attend Sacred Heart University where she ran Cross Country and Track at the Division 1 level. After graduating, Meghan coached at Soundview Sports Camp which led her to her job at “My Gym” (Children’s Fitness Center) in Fairfield. Eventually she relocated to Boston and became the Assistant Director for “My Gym” in Newton, MA before heading out west to California. Most recently, she was a coach with the Sports4Kids program at Garfield Charter School in Redwood City before joining the Sequoia family full time.  When Meghan isn’t playing sports or spending time outside, you can usually find her cheering on her favorites; the Yankees, Patriots and Notre Dame!

 

Stacy Olson

Aquatics and Program Director
Stacy Olson learned to swim as a child at the Sequoia YMCA and believes that her passion for water is due to the positive experience she had at those lessons.  She has a wide variety of aquatics know how including synchronized swimming, water polo, competitive swimming, lifeguarding, free diving for abalone, teaching swim lessons, lifeguarding, and water aerobics.  Stacy has loved working for the Sequoia YMCA on and off for the past six years because of the emphasis it places on character development and strengthening her community.  She looks forward to meeting as many members as possible, so stop by the pool and say hello!

Stacy has a BA in Sociology with a minor in Women’s Studies from UC Santa Barbara and is currently certified as a Basic Life Support Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, YMCA Lifeguard, YMCA Lifeguard Instructor, YMCA Swim Instructor and Water Aerobics Instructor.
