Janet Thomas - Distinguished Service Award

Janet has been a mainstay at the Sequoia YMCA for the past twelve years, serving as a job coach for the Kainos enclave there and volunteering countless hours of her own time. The Sequoia YMCA collaboratively partners with Kainos, a home for developmentally disabled adults. Through this mutually beneficial exchange, Kainos adults experience a better quality of life by working at the Y and, in the turn, the YMCA benefits from the stellar service provided by Kainos employees.

Janet can be seen at the Y in various capacities—greeting members at the welcome desk, substituting as an instructor for cycling or dance aerobics classes, driving the YMCA van, or leading as a team captain for the annual Community Support Campaign. Janet is such an integral part of the Sequoia YMCA that we would certainly be lost without her!
Additionally, Janet owns and operates a residence for people with developmental disabilities, works several evenings at Hope House with women recovering from substance abuse, and volunteers with Lion’s Club and as an usher at her church. This year Janet joined the YMCA's planned giving society, The Heritage Club, and she looks forward to working for the YMCA someday when she retires.
